29th EGN Coordination Committee Meeting

Lucena - Sierras Subbéticas (Spain), 7th- 9th March 2012

The EGN meeting in Lucena raised a number of questions about the future of the European and Global Geoparks Network.
Will Unesco be able to give the same value
to geodiversity as biodiversity?
As a matter of fact, Unesco is considering the possibilities of converting the current activities about the geological heritage into an international programme or initiative, holding in due consideration all financial and administrative implications.
This goal could be reached in two years.
However, the Geoparks need a political and critical mass to achieve the goal.
